Traditions and Cultural Heritage

The northern Philippine province of Ilocos Norte is rich in traditions and cultural heritage that speak to the region’s past, influences, and way of life.

Cultural Practices/Traditions:

  1. Farming and Agriculture: Ilocos Norte’s economy and way of life have always heavily relied on agriculture, especially rice production.

2. Weaving: The Abel Iloco and other traditional handwoven textiles are a part of the region’s cultural legacy. These textiles are utilized to create traditional garments like the “Barong Tagalog” and “Barot Saya”

3. Music and Dance: The colorful culture of the province is displayed through the performance of tradiitional Ilocano music, dances and festivals of all festivals such as the Pamulinawen Festival at celebrations and cultural events.
